approach

My approach is the result of a slow development to serve projects proposing a reflection about the issue of the body: what is a body? -the spinozist question of what a body is capable? -what is becoming a body? -the spectator’s body and how can it be, beyond the gaze, the complete receptor for the artwork? On this point, the principle of art as experience is central. This research gives birth to bodily entities, called monads, which enter into relation with spaces and spectators, taking different form: installations, graphic works, videos… This approach works on the staging of mechanisms and interactions, most often developed in situ.. Associated with these principles, research integrates a growing place for the issue of gesture and in the autonomy of medium in the construction of the form, in close connection with the Deleuzian dyad of difference and repetition. Both conceptually and aesthetically, the whole work readily relates to post-minimalism.

Jean-Marc Lefèvre is currently developing his research by projects in partnership with various collectors and international private and public partners, while collaborating with Arts Vivants Aix, a structure based in Aix-en-Provence, promoting the production and diffusion of contemporary art.
